Quantum Science: What It Is and Why You Should Care
Dr. Tom Wong Dept. of Physics |
“Quantum” has been popularized by science fiction films and books as a mysterious and uncharted realm that permits futuristic technologies and superpowers, but which only geniuses can understand. In reality, anyone can learn quantum. In this lightning talk, we will learn what quantum is and how it impacts your everyday life, such as enabling computer chips and solar panels to medical imaging devices and the global positioning system. Furthermore, quantum information science is giving rise to a new class of technologies, including quantum computers, quantum sensors, and quantum networks, that could revolutionize information processing, gathering, and transmission.
